Been there, done that, plus drunk driver. Not fun. My knee might never be the same, my motorcycle’s destroyed, and I’m still on crutches. My guardian angel was working overtime; the wreck destroyed 800 pounds of bike, so I’m lucky I ride paranoid with armored gear, or I’d have been history 😦
I know what you mean, though. Once upon a time, I was also in a position where I was so very convinced that that was what I wanted to do. It hurt. And it hurt for a long time afterwards, but I eventually reached a place where I started to think, maybe, that it was a good thing I hadn’t. And then I was glad. And then I was gladder. And eventually I was normal again, for a (rarely) given definition of normal.
I’m probably not as pretty, though.
